Nippon Paint India to launch NIPPON CERAMO, expanding its marine coatings portfolio
Nippon Paint India, through its Industrial Coatings business, is set to introduce NIPPON CERAMO, a
globally established shop primer and pre-fabrication primer, to the Indian marine industry. This
launch is part of the company’s strategy to introduce its marine coatings portfolio and bring world-
class, proven technologies to India, notes a press release from the company.
Widely recognized across international shipyards, NIPPON CERAMO is a high-performance, low-zinc
inorganic shop primer designed to protect steel during fabrication while improving welding, cutting
and operational efficiency.
Commenting on the development, Mr Subash Gaijes Selvaraj, President – Industrial Coatings, Nippon
Paint India, said: “India’s shipbuilding industry is witnessing increasing demand for technologies that
enhance manufacturing efficiency and meet international quality standards. NIPPON CERAMO
represents our commitment to bringing globally proven solutions to Indian customers. Beyond
corrosion protection, its advanced formulation improves fabrication productivity, reduces rework,
and supports efficient shipbuilding operations. This introduction will give us a way into the Indian
marine sector and strengthen our commitment to India’s growing maritime industry.”
NIPPON CERAMO addresses key fabrication challenges, including coating damage during welding
and cutting, zinc-fume generation, and additional surface-preparation requirements.
Key product advantages include:
High heat resistance: Tolerates temperatures up to 800°C, helping minimise coating damage.
Low-zinc formulation: Reduces zinc-fume generation and limits zinc-salt formation.
Improved workability: Supports efficient welding, cutting and bending operations.
Reduced rework: Helps minimise coating repairs and production delays.
The product serves commercial shipyards, ship repair facilities, offshore engineering contractors,
marine fabricators, and steel-processing facilities seeking improved productivity and coating
performance.
NIPPON CERAMO also has compliance documentation for relevant International Maritime
Organisation standards, including IMO MSC.215(82) and MSC.288(87).
Through this introduction, Nippon Paint India aims to enter the marine coatings segment and
support India’s shipbuilding ecosystem with advanced technologies and technical expertise.
